Universal Productions
Audio Visualization

I was tasked with creating an animation that is a visual representation of a selected piece of music from Universal Production.

The visuals were created to be expressive and capture the energy and emotion of the audio. The focus was to engage and entice the viewer to see the music's potential in a new way.

color + shape

The main focus of this direction was the development and evolution of the environment with the help of the music.

The viewer sees the black/white environment in a new way as color and shapes react to the audio. The abstract colors and visuals will engage the audience and connect them to the music.

texture process

The main problem I had to solve was the transition from black/white to full color. Not only that but the geometry needed to distort as well. There were a couple of different solutions I had that involved diving into Houdini but I decided eventually that using fields in cinema was the easiest and most efficient method to achieve the result that I wanted.

timelapse

While working I decided I would like a timelapse of me working for additional processes. Here you can see a glimpse of my workflow bouncing between C4D, Houdini, and After Effects. Both time lapses are around 4 hours in real time.

compositing

Post processing was a large part of getting this project to it's final look. I used both Nuke and After Effects for compositing. Using Nuke to animate the lights, convert the color spaces from ACES to SRGB. And After Effects for final color adjustment and timing.

Nuke was a huge help for this project. In Redshift for C4D, there is no way to export a post-processing pass. So recreating them in Nuke to react to the lighting passes themselves was very important for the final to be achieved.
